Popcorn Universe is a Canadian entertainment booking platform — currently in active development — designed to be the single place where you discover, explore, and book movies, live theatre, stand-up comedy, and concerts.

No more bouncing between five different apps. No more broken booking flows. No more settling for bad seats because you didn't know a better option existed. We're building the app that entertainment deserves.

Entertainment is one of the most human things we do — it brings people together, creates shared memories, and gives life texture. Our job is to make sure the technology never gets in the way of that. Every decision we make is in service of one goal: remove the friction, and let the experience speak for itself.

Streaming services have perfected the experience of entertainment at home — one app, everything you need, in seconds. We believe the same should be true for going out. No friction, no guesswork, no compromise. Just the experience you came for, exactly as it should be.

Our Story

Born from a real frustration.

We came to Canada as newcomers, full of ambition and ready to explore everything this country has to offer. And Canada has a lot to offer — incredible theatres, world-class concerts, comedy festivals, blockbuster IMAX experiences. The entertainment is there. The way to access it isn't.

"We spent more time figuring out how to book a movie than actually watching it. That felt wrong — and fixable."

Between juggling different apps for different theatres, poorly designed booking flows, no real way to discover what's happening near you, and a checkout experience that felt like it was designed to make you give up — we kept asking the same question: why hasn't someone fixed this?

So we decided to. Popcorn Universe is our answer — not just for us, but for the millions of Canadians who love entertainment and deserve a platform that respects their time and their experience.

We're two people building something real, in public, from Waterloo. And we're just getting started.

Nishant Bhatt

Nishant brings the vision and the business backbone to Popcorn Universe. With a background spanning IT project management, business development, and operations, he owns everything that isn't code — product strategy, marketing, partnerships, and the user experience that ties it all together.

Born and raised in India, now building in Waterloo — Nishant's biggest superpower is seeing the gap between what exists and what should exist, then doing something about it.

Rohan Nirmal

Rohan is the engineer behind the curtain — the one who turns the vision into something you can actually tap and swipe. He leads all app development, web production, and technical architecture for Popcorn Universe, building both the Flutter mobile app and the web platform from the ground up.

Where others see complexity, Rohan sees a problem with a clean solution waiting to be written. He's the reason Popcorn Universe works as beautifully as it looks.
